Jason Landrum
Dr. Jason Landrum is a Senior Program Officer with the Lenfest Ocean Program (LOP) at The Pew Charitable Trusts, which is a grant-making program that supports research projects that inform marine policy and decision-making. At the LOP, he manages a robust portfolio of projects that serve to inform decisions related to the management, conservation, and restoration of marine wildlife and ecosystems around the world. Through this work, he identifies and develops strategic priority areas, co-designs project ideas with potential partners and grantees, oversees the progress of projects to ensure they generate their intended impact, and contributes to outreach and communications within this portfolio in collaboration with LOP team members. Before joining Pew, Jason served as the Science and Technology Advisor for the USAID/El Salvador Mission, where he provided technical and strategic direction on both bilateral and regional environmental and economic development issues while spearheading Mission-wide efforts to integrate science, technology, innovation, and partnerships into development activities across Central America. Prior to his time abroad, Landrum was a AAAS fellow and senior scientist for the Marine Debris Program at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). At NOAA, he guided research activities supported by the Program, co-led federal interagency coordination and collaboration, and managed various initiatives that promoted the use of science-based information to reduce the impact of marine debris on aquatic ecosystems. Jason was formally trained as a biological oceanographer with a background in marine ecology, chemical ecology, and stable isotope biogeochemistry. He holds a bachelor’s degree in earth systems science from Cornell University, a master’s degree in international affairs from the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in biological oceanography from Georgia Tech’s School of Biology. In his spare time, he spends time with his wife, Anne, and his son, Emmett, and enjoys several hobbies, including hiking, photography, scuba diving, and playing music.
