Clarence Darrow Distinguished University Professor, University of Michigan. Research focuses on constitutional-criminal oricedure, especially police interrogation and confessions. He has written many articles on the meaning and significance of Miranda , but wrote articles on confessions even before Miranda . He has also written several articles on the right to counsel, and search and seizure. He has written widely on euthanasia. Modern Criminal Procedure which he has co-authored for all nine editions, was the first course book published ever devoted exclusively to teaching amterials on the consitutional dimension of criminal procedure and is widely regarded as a pioneering work.
