Research focuses on English Literature from the Renaissance to the present. He has established what is called Reader Response Criticism or Reception Aesthetics. His subsequent work tries to chart Literary Antrophology with the objective of finding out what literature reveals about the human makeup and why human beings stand in need of fictions. His most recent work is evoted to an anatomy of interpretation, and the problem of emergence, i.e. how things come about.
