Professor Owen Chadwick was the Master of Selwyn College, Dixie Professor of Ecclesiastical History, Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Cambridge. He was an educator and prolific historian of Christianity whose works encompassed sweeping narratives, like his two volume history of the Victorian church, as well as incisive biographies and vivid pictures of rural church life. "The Reformation", one of two volumes Professor Chadwick wrote for The Penguin History of the Church - the other was "The Christian Church in the Cold War" - was required reading in colleges for decades. He is the recipient of the Wolfson History Prize and the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Additionally, he served as the President of the British Academy, Trustee of National Portrait Gallery, and Chancellor of the University of East Anglia. Professor Chadwick passed away at the age of 99 in July, 2015.
