Research involves the application of applied mathematics to a variety of biological disciplines, ranging from cranial analyses clarifying the taxonomic status of the coyote in New England to the coupling of solute and water transport in epithelia. He has been involved at a legal and political level in the management of marine fisheries. His current research focuses on hierarchical population of models of malaria and the maintenance of diversity in tropical forests.
