William H. Press is a computer scientist and computational biologist with broad interests in the physical and biological sciences.  He was previously a theoretical physicist and computational astrophysicist.  His lab now studies various aspects of big data in biology, typically in close collaboration with other, experimental biology labs.  Representative projects have included new methods for high-fidelity sequencing, investigations of synonymous codon usage, comparative genomics (e.g., of bat species that are carriers for hemorrhagic fevers such as Ebola), high throughput methods for studying protein-DNA binding (e.g., off-target binding of CRISPR/Cas genome editing systems).  Press also has interests in game theory, computational statistics, and health information technologies (including electronic health records and the design of clinical trials).
