Wilfrid Gangbo is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests lie in the calculus of variations and on partial differential equations. He is interested in the theory of optimal mass transportation, also known as the Monge-Kantorovich theory. During the past ten years, Gangbo has also worked on the master equations in mean field games and on Hamilton-Jacobi equations on the set of probability measures. He has been associate editor for several international journals and served on the advisory boards of various institutions.

Gangbo was the graduate vice chair in the department of mathematics at UCLA from 2018 to 2021. He co-led the launch of the David Blackwell Summer Research Institute, a six week elite research program for undergraduate students, which aims to honor Blackwell's legacy by increasing the number of African-Americans obtaining PhDs in mathematics.

Gangbo received his Ph.D. from EPFL-Switzerland.
