Wei Zhang is Professor of Mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Zhang works in number theory, automorphic forms, and arithmetic geometry. His research program involves fundamental objects such as L-functions, which appear in the Riemann hypothesis and its generalizations, and are central to the Langlands program. With collaborators he has discovered geometric interpretations for the higher derivatives of L-functions and has made significant advances on conjectures subsequent to the Gross--Zagier theorem on elliptic curves, including new results towards the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture. He holds a B.Sc from Peking university and Ph.D from Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
