Professor Walter LaFeber is the Marie Underhill Noll Professor Emeritus of History at Cornell University. His research focuses on U.S. foreign relations, 1750-present. His work on the late nineteenth century suggested a different perspective on the origins of, and sources for, modern U.S. diplomacy. Professor LaFeber's studies of relations with Russia/Soviet Union, Japan, Central America, and recent work on globalization and technology emphasize foreign views of Americans as well as American view of these areas. Professor LaFeber is the recipient of the Beveridge Prize, Hawley Prize, Bancroft Prize, Myers Prize, John M. Clark Teaching Award, and the past president of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations.
