Virginia Trimble is Professor of Physics & Astronomy at University of California, Irvine. Trained in astronomy, with research on the Crab Nebula, white dwarfs, binary stars, and stellar evolution, Trimble has also studied the histories of physics and astronomy, as well as scientometrics. Her publications include the co-edited volume The Sky is for Everyone: Women Astronomers in Their Own Words and Visit to a Small Universe.

Trimble is a staff astronomer and member of the advisory board for the Las Cumbres Observatory in Goleta, California. She is a member of many scientific societies, including the American Astronomical Society, Royal Astronomical Society, American Physical Society, European Physical Society and International Astronomical Union, and was a founding member of the European Astronomical Society. She earned her doctorate from California Institute of Technology.
