Véronique Gouverneur

Véronique Gouverneur started her independent research career at the University of Oxford in 1998 in the Department of Chemistry, and was promoted to Professor of Chemistry in 2008. She was also a tutorial fellow at Merton College Oxford teaching organic chemistry. Since 2022, she is Waynflete Professor of Chemistry at Magdalen College. The primary focus of her laboratory is the invention of sustainable fluorine chemistry, with the aim of developing novel synthetic methodologies for the preparation of complex fluorinated molecules designed to understand, diagnose and cure diseases. 

Gouverneur is author of more than 210 peer-reviewed publications and 10 patents. The awards she has received include the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit award, the ACS Award for Creative work in Fluorine Chemistry, the RSC Tilden Prize, the Tetrahedron Chair, the Prelog Medal, and the RSC Organic Stereochemistry Award.

Gouverneur obtained a PhD in chemistry at the Université Catholique de Louvain (LLN, Belgium) and has held positions at the Scripps Research Institute (CA, USA) and the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg (France).
