Dr. Tomas Hokfelt is a Senior Professor of histology with cell biology at the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm. His research centers on signaling molecules in the nervous system, especially bioactive peptides and their interaction with classic neurotransmitters, using bioactive, electrophysiological and behavioral techniques. He has a special interest is devoted to questions concerning nerve injury, neurodegeneration and other disease-related problems. He is the recipient of Artois-Baillet-Latour Health Prize and Bristol-Myers Squibb Award. He is a member of National Academy of Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, Academia Nazionale Dei Lincei (Roma), and American Physiological Society.
