Rando’s cross-disciplinary research has led to pivotal contributions to the overlapping fields of the biology of aging, stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and degenerative diseases. He pioneered studies of the systemic regulation of aging using parabiotic technologies, showing rejuvenation of old tissues exposed to factors from young blood. This research has spawned an entire field of aging research and led to a clinical trial for a novel treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. His research in stem cell biology has revealed fundamental biological principles of stem cell function and has advanced the field of stem cell therapeutics.
