Thomas Peter Stossel
I am pursuing three principal activities: 1. Having completed decades of research on how cells move, I am working on commercializing two discoveries that emerged from it, one to improve the preservation of blood platelets procured for transfusion into patients at risk of bleeding and the other to benefit patients with diverse severe illnesses requiring critical care. 2. I am analyzing medical innovation and the relative merits of the contributions to it of publicly supported academic research and efforts from private industry. 3. Through a nonprofit I co-founded, Options for Children in Zambia, colleagues and I are attempting to provide sustainable healthcare improvement in that Sub Saharan African country.
