A founder of the Southern California Institute of Architecture and a 2006 Pritzker prize winner, he has created a strong architectural vocabulary which uses common materials to create large scale sculptural buildings of both power and common sense. In particular he has made buildings for the public realm such as the San Francisco Federal Building and the CalTrans Center in Los Angeles that expand and deepen an understanding of architecture by the larger public.
