Chairman and Co-Founder. Co-founded American Industrial Partners in 1988. Continues to serve as an officer and director. From 1999-2004, was CEO of Bucyrus International and since 2004, served as non-executive chair. From 1980-1987, was president, chairman, CEO, and COO of NL Industries. Active on the boards of many arts and cultural organizations in Houston and New York City including the New York City Ballet (chair emeritus), Poets and Writers, the New York Society Library, the City Center for Music and Drama, the Theatre for a New Audience (chair), the Board of Governors of St. John's College (vice chair), and the Achilles Track Club (founding board member).
