Influential figure in the field of contemporary choreography known for intentionally working outside the realm of translation to achieve greater awareness of random association, intuition, memory, time-play, and a host of other intangibles set loose by the power of dance. Since 1982, created over 35 pieces for his company as well as solo works for Mikhail Baryshnikov and Jean Butler. Tere O’Connor Dance company performed throughout the world. He created numerous commissioned works for dance companies including the Lyon Opera Ballet, White Oak Dance Project, and de Rotterdamse Dansgroep. Principal mentor of New York’s avant-garde dance artists. Awards include three-time Bessie Award winner (NYC Dance and Performance Award), the Doris Duke Fellow Performing Artist Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a United States Artist Rockefeller Fellow.
