Tanya M. Luhrmann is a psychological anthropologist and a professor in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University. Her work focuses on the way that ideas held in the mind come to seem externally real to people, the way people experience God and the supernatural in the United States and abroad, and the way that ideas about the mind affect mental experience. She has conducted important studies of modern-day witches, charismatic Christians, and psychiatric illness.
