Agenda-setting work on the political psychology of race, gender, social class and experimental design in political science. The Race Card: Campaign Strategy, Implicit Messages, and the Norm of Equality (2001), a widely influential book on the nature, origins, and influence of social norms on race in politics spawned much research applying the ideas and methods to other social groups and political domains, especially regarding the impact of implicit and explicit appeals. The Silent Sex: Gender, Deliberation and Institutions (2014), using randomized experiments and analyses of real-world groups, showed that women are typically disadvantaged in small-group deliberation but that decision rules can reduce gender-based disadvantage.
