Work demonstrates the powerful conceptual abilities of very young children and explains how children come to learn about culturally constructed artifacts and the natural world. Former President of the Cognitive Development Society. Awarded a Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award from University of Michigan, Developmental Psychology Mentor Award from the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association 2016 G. Stanley Hall Award for Distinguished Contribution to Developmental Psychology (Division 7), a J.S. Guggenheim Fellowship, and Member of the National Academy of Sciences.
