Dr. Steven Salzberg has developed computational tools for genome analysis that are among the most heavily used in biological and biomedical research. Salzberg led the bioinformatics analysis for many of the earliest microbial genome projects, including the first sequences of major pathogens such as Bacillus anthracis, Vibrio cholerae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis, the parasites Plasmodium falciparum, Brugia malayi, Schistosoma mansoni and the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. More recently, his team developed computational tools used throughout the world for analyzing gene expression data. In just the last six years they’ve been cited in the literature almost 15,000 times.
