Professor Reardon studies the causes, patterns, trends, and consequences of social and educational inequality. He has developed sophisticated methods of quantifying forms of social and educational inequality, including the measurement of racial and economic segregation and academic achievement gaps. Applying these methods to population-level educational and social data, his work has illuminated the patterns and effects of racial and economic segregation in the US., the forces that shape such segregation, and the effects of racial and economic segregation on patterns of unequal educational opportunity.
