At a startling young age, Sarah Stillman is a master of immersive long-form journalism about such subjects as war, immigration, human trafficking, Mexican drug cartels, and incarcerated women. When she won a MacArthur Foundation fellowship in 2016, Steve Coll, dean of the Columbia Journalism School, where Stillman directs the Global Migration,Project, praised her "unflinching, original and essential" journalism and called her "one of the most important public service journalists of her generation." She has won many significant journalism awards. She has taught writing to Yale undergraduates and to inmates at a maximum security men's prison.
