Professor Seager seeks to discover Earth-like exoplanets and signs of life on habitable worlds. Seager’s early work founded many of the original concepts now standard in the field, notably transmission spectra of transiting planets (which led to the first detection of an exoplanet atmosphere), atmospheric retrieval, and the brightness variability of terrestrial exoplanets. Seager chaired the NASA Starshade Rendezvous mission study, and currently co-chairs the concept team for the NASA Habitable Planet Imaging Mission. She is PI of ASTERIA, a prototype for a concept for a fleet of nanosatellites, and Deputy Science Director for the NASA TESS mission
