Sandra K. Weller is Distinguished Professor and Chair in Department of Molecular Biology and Biophysics at the University of Connecticut. She is a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor, the highest honor bestowed on a faculty member of the University of Connecticut.

Weller is recognized for ground-breaking discoveries on the human pathogen herpes simplex virus. Using genetic, biochemical, biophysical, structural and molecular approaches, her laboratory studies mechanisms of synthesis, maturation and cleavage and packaging of viral genomes.

She is a member of the American Society for Microbiology and has served as president of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering and president of the Association of Medical School Microbiology and Immunology Chairs. She holds in a Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin.
