The Eaton-Kortum model (Econometrica 2002, with J. Eaton, awarded the 2004 Frisch Medal) has become a basic framework for both theoretical and empirical work in international trade, and the Klette-Kortum model (JPE 2004, with T. J. Klette) has become a basic framework for studying innovation. In addition, he has made many other significant contributions to trade (Econometrica 2011, with Eaton and F. Kramarz; AER 2003, with A. Bernard, Eaton and J. B. Jensen; and EER 2001, with Eaton) and to understanding productivity (Econometrica 1997; IER 1999, with Eaton; RAND Journal 2000, with J. Lerner).
