Samuel Gubins

Dr. Samuel Gubins is the President of Annual Reviews Investment Corporation. He also served as the Editor-in-Chief of Annual Reviews for 20 years until 2015. Gubins graduated from Reed College and went on to receive his Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University in economics. Prior to joining Annual Reviews, Gubins served as Vice President for Finance at Haverford College, where he was also an assistant professor of economics (1968-81). He served as Senior Vice President at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia (1981-95).  Annual Reviews is a distinguished nonprofit scientific publisher of 50 journals spanning the biological, physical, and social sciences. It  commissions unique syntheses by eminent scientists reviewing  advances and expressing opinions on promising directions. Gubins is responsible for transforming an established publisher into a modern web-based information source, including the transition to electronic publishing. He broadened access to scientific information worldwide, including developing countries. For over 35 years he has served as Treasurer and Director of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and has served on the boards of many other not for profit organizations. He is currently a member of the Board of Canadian Science Publishers, a non-profit organization based in Ottawa. He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2008.
