Rosemarie Trockel has pioneered conceptual art for over four decades, employing video, ceramics, drawing, hot plates, and knitwork in her practice. She challenges established social and artistic hierarchies while questioning politics, gender, domesticity and eroticism. Throughout the 1980s, Trockel explored large scale knit-paintings as commentary on male-dominance in the arts. In 1994, she created Frankfurter Engel, the first public monument in Germany dedicated to the Nazi persecution of homosexuals. She has been widely exhibited at galleries and institutions across the globe. Trockel champions emerging artists in her curatorial practice, personal collecting, and as a professor at the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf.
