Robert A. Kagan is Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Law. He was Director of the Center for the Study of Law and Society from 1993 to 2004. Kagan's scholarship is at the interface of law and social science. His primary research interests are comparative legal institutions; courts and litigation; regulatory politics, enforcement and complaince. He has studied how wage and price controls, safety rules, and environmental regulations are administered and how American legal structures and processes affect economic development and competition. Kagan has received a lifetime achievement award from the both the American Political Science Association and the Law and Society Association, as well as teaching and mentoring awards from both bodies,
