Research is in theoretical physical chemistry, often in close collaboration with experimenters. He has worked on energy and electron transfer between molecules in condensed phases, electronic states and optical properties of conjugated polymers, quantum dynamics of tunneling systems interacting with their environment, and the quantum dynamics of highly excited molecules.
