Robert C. Landick

Robert Landick studies the detailed mechanism of RNA polymerase function. His research has defined mechanisms of transcriptional pausing for both bacterial and human RNA polymerases, established how paused states can be altered by transcription factors, and identified roles for transcriptional pausing in gene regulation. Dissection of these regulatory interactions has required development of new methods, including analysis of transcription by single molecules of RNA polymerase. Recently he was instrumental in forming the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center, for which he serves as Science Director while continuing his studies on RNA polymerase and fundamental mechanisms of transcriptional regulation.
