Research centers on the politics and international relations of East Asia, especially Northeast Asia, and U.S. policies in Asia. He has written extensively upon the politics and foreign policy of Japan, the issues relating to the Korean peninsula; and U.S.-China relations. His current research deals with the political consequences of globalization in Asia.
