Robbie Robertson
As leader of the seminal musical group The Band, Robbie Robertson (Cayuga/Mohawk) established a world-renowned reputation as a songwriter/singer and guitarist, producer, actor, and film composer. Robertson recorded with and nurtured hundreds of artists, ranging from Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton to indigenous performers at the beginnings of their careers. He was known for songs such as The Weight and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, and for the collaborations with Martin Scorsese on films spanning from The Last Waltz (1978) to The Irishman (2019). It should also be noted that Robertson was a First Nations performer with a commitment to exploring Indigenous music in the cosmopolitan settings that marked his long career.
