Rita F. Dove

Commonwealth Professor of English, University of Virginia. U.S. Poet Laureate 1993-1995 and Virginia Poet Laureate 2004-2006. Awards include the 1987 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, the 1996 Charles Frankel Prize / National Humanities Medal, the 2011 National Medal of Arts, the Fulbright Lifetime Achievement Medal, the Heinz Award and the Common Wealth Award. Fellowships from the NEA, NEH, and the Guggenheim Foundation. 2007 Chubb Fellow at Yale University. 25 honorary degrees, most recently from Yale (2014). Latest poetry books: Sonata Mulattica (2009) and Collected Poems 1974-2004 (2016). Also writes fiction and drama.
