Leader in American health care delivery and policy who works at the interface of clinical medicine, business, policy and philanthropy to increase access to quality health care for all Americans especially the nation's vulnerable populations. Focused the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's $8 billion endowment on improving health care quality, halting the epidemic of childhood obesity, and shoring up the national public health infrastructure. Implemented new approaches to reducing racial disparities in health care. Served as deputy administrator of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, on numerous federal healthcare policy advisory committees, and a Presidential Commission, all the while serving in academic and administrative leadership roles at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Health System. Member of the Institute of Medicine, master of the American College of Physicians, and fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
