Theoretical solid-earth geophysicist. Work has enriched our understanding of plate tectonics, mantle convection and mixing, post-glacial rebound, true polar wander, sedimentary basin formation and the mechanics of composite materials including polycrystalline and multiphase aggregates, porous and cracked solids and partial melts. Deep physical insights into large-scale earth processes has permitted him to quantify complex processes.
