Richard J. Walker
Richard J. Walker is Distinguished University Professor at University of Maryland. He uses radiogenic isotopes and trace elements to conduct research in several areas of geochemistry and cosmochemistry, including the chemical evolution of Earth’s mantle, the formation and crystallization histories of early solar system planetesimals, the origin of ore deposits, and the accretional and differentiation histories of the Earth, Moon and Mars.
Walker pioneered the application of the Re-Os isotope system to high temperature geochemistry and has authored over 200 articles and book chapters. He is a fellow of the Geochemical Society, European Association of Geochemistry, and the American Geophysical Union, and a recipient of the Geochemical Society Clarke Medal. He holds a Ph.D. in geology from State University of New York at Stony Brook.
