Alumni Distinguished Professor and Center for Advanced Study Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Crafted highly original methods for assessing the conceptual competence of human infants. Experiments have revealed remarkably early abilities in the domains of naive physics, naive psychology, naive morality, and naive biology. Findings contribute to the understanding of the nature and course of cognitive development in infancy.
