Ray A. Hammond is the Co-Founder and Pastor at Bethel AME Church in Boston. He was educated as a physician at Harvard Medical School, he joined the Emergency Medicine staff at the Cape Cod Hospital. He completed his Master of Arts degree in the Study of Religion at Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In 1988 he founded Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston. He has a long history of involvement with youth and community activities. He is Chairman and Co-Founder of the Ten Point Coalition-an ecumenical group of Christian clergy and lay leaders working to mobilize the greater Boston community around issues affecting youth; Executive Director, Bethel's Generation Excel program; Chairman, Boston Foundation; Vice President for Membership, Boy Scouts Minuteman Council; Executive Committee Member, Black Ministerial Alliance; trustee of Catholic Charities of Boston, the United Way of Massachusetts Bay, and the Yawkey Foundation; director for the Boston Globe and Citizens Bank of Massachusetts. He has authored several papers and articles on a range of issues including academic achievement, diversity, and violence prevention. His numerous honors including honorary doctorates from Boston University, Cambridge College, University of Massachusetts, and Lesley College.
