Ralph D. Snyderman
Dr. Ralph Snyderman is the Chancellor for Health Affairs, President and CEO of Duke University Health System, and James B. Duke Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. He is a physician, scientist, administrator. Dr. Snyderman conceptualized and developed the Duke integrated academic health system as the model for prospective health care. His earlier career was distinguished by seminal research on the mechanisms of inflammation and leukocyte chemotaxis. He provided leadership in biotechnology while senior vice president for research and development at Genentech. Dr. Snyderman is the recipient of numerous scientific awards, including the two top awards worldwide for inflammation research. He served as President of the Association of American Physicians, Chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges, and is frequently called upon by Congress and other policymakers as a participant in the debate on health care reform. He received the Washington College Alumni Association Citation in 1996 and an honorary degree in 2004 for outstanding achievement in the field of medicine. Ralph is a member of the 1782 Society, and made the first Board commitment (a gift of $100,000) to the new science-building project.
