R. Michael Michael Alvarez

Research focuses on public opinion and voting behavior, election administration, and statistical modeling. He has long been interested in empirically testing formal models of elections and voting behavior. Alvarez is best known for his work in public opinion on the role in information in voting behavior. In particular, he highlighted the role of voter uncertainty. He has also done work developing statistical tools to study voting behavior and, more recently, studying election administration as co-director of the Caltech/MIT Voting Technology Project. He also received the Emerging Scholar Award in the Elections, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior Section of the American Political Science Association in 2001.
