Philip Holmes is an applied mathematician. He has contributed to the mathematical foundations of dynamical systems theory and to modeling the dynamics of solid and fluid systems, including turbulent flows, and of optical data transmission. He currently collaborates with neuroscientists, focusing on the bio-mechanics and neuro-mechanics of locomotion and the dynamics of cognitive processes. He has also published four collections of poetry, and is currently working on a fifth. He is an Emeritus Professor.
