Peter Schäfer
A prolific scholar of ancient Judaism and early Christianity through monographs, co-edited volumes, numerous articles, and synoptic editions. Schäfer's research interests include Jewish History in Late Antiquity, the religion and literature of Rabbinic Judaism, Jewish Mysticism, 19th- and 20th-century Wissenschaft des Judentums, and Jewish Magic. Director, Institut f. Judaistik and Professor of Jewish Studies-Freie Universität Berlin (1983-2008) and Professor of Religion and Perelman Professor of Judaic Studies, Princeton University (1998-2013). Currently the director of the Jewish Museum Berlin (2014). Winner of Leibniz Prize, Germany (1994) and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Distinguished Achievement Award (2006).
