Working at the interface of demography and spatial analysis/spatial statistics, Rogerson has advanced understandings of inter-regional migration flows and population change and has developed new methods for the detection of spatial clusters in geographic data. He has shown how information about jobs and the spatial distribution of job vacancies, as well as the size of generational cohorts, shape inter-regional migration within the U.S. Rogerson has developed methods to enable quick detection of change in geographic patterns, such as those describing incidence of crime or disease where finding emerging spatial patterns as quickly as possible is essential for effective response.
