Krupp Foundation Professor of European Studies . Hall is a comparative political economist who studies how the institutions organizing the political economy influence economic policy and performance and how political economies change over time.  His works on this subject include Varieties of Capitalism (edited with David Soskice), The Political Power of Economic Ideas (edited for the SSRC) and Governing the Economy. He has also written widely about the methodologies of social science and the role of institutions and ideas in political and economic life more generally  He is the author of more than 100 articles on these subjects and on politics and policy-making in Europe and the developed democracies as a whole.
