Everett is the author of thirty books, novels, collections of stories and values of poetry recognized both in the United States and abroad. His work is ironic and often satiric, linguistically playful yet at all times philosophically serious. He has received the Believer Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, an American Academy of Arts and Letters Literature Award, and many other prizes and awards. He has served as chair of the English Department and as director of the Ph.D. Program in Literature and Creative Writing at USC. He is Distinguished Professor of English.  He is Director of Collection for Métaphore Diffusion, editions La Cheminante, Ciboure, France.
