Professor Paul A. Robinson is the Richard W. Lyman Professor Emeritus in the Humanities and Professor Emeritus of History at Stanford University, where he was also Director of Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities. Robinson works on the history of European (and sometimes American) thought in the 19th and 20th centuries. His writing has focused on three topics: the history of psychoanalysis; the history of ideas about human sexuality, especially the experience of gays and lesbians; and the connection between intellectual history and the history of opera.
