He has made seminal contributions to our understanding of supersymmetric theories and the breaking of supersymmetry, and to string theory, obtaining results of importance in pure mathematics as well. He is a MacArthur Fellow and a co-winner (with Witten) of the Dannie Heineman Prize in Mathematical Physics and the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
