She is among the major philosophers of science in the world. Educated in the United States, she taught at Stanford and now holds a chair at LSE and a part-time appointment at the University of California, San Diego. Author of four books and eighty articles on various topics, particularly on the laws of nature, causality, measurement and objectivity. She is a MacArthur Fellow, a fellow of the British Academy and the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina.
