After he immigrated in 1990, Lyubich became the dominant actor in the American School of Geometrical Dynamical Systems. With great creativity Lyubich combined probability, geometry and powerful one complex variable techniques to treat the amazing theory of non-invertible systems with one degree of freedom. This spearheaded a revolution in dynamical systems. This advance got around the realization (1970) that the general two or higher dimensional invertible dynamical system was too complicated while the general invertible one dimensional system was too special. Lyubich inspired a cadre of Ph.D. students and researchers. Over the past decade Lyubich made the IMS at Stony Brook into an international hub of research in dynamics and geometry.
